Day Diving - Trip Report 07/11/08
Day Diving Trip Report:
Friday July 11th, 2008
Dive Master: Peter Schalkwijk

Accidents or Close Calls: None

Location(s):
El Bajo, The Frigate

Surface Conditions (Sun, Wind, Waves, Temperature):
Cool morning with a slight breeze and small chop, flattening out midday.

Under water Conditions (Visibility, Temperature, Thermocline, Current):
Visibility was around 20 ft, with a temperature in the mid 70´s a thermocline at around 50 ft with temperature dropping to the lower 70’s and close to no current at both sites.

Description of the day’s events:
We started by doing two dives at El Bajo. Visibility seemed to be nice from the surface and going down the line we found a thermocline at around 50 ft where visibility dropped noticeably. We cruised around the seamount and then going above the thermocline we left the shallows following big schools of fish. On the second dive we did the same thing, and as we left the seamount we were rewarded with a huge school of skipjack. The third dive we did at the artificial reef that people call “The Frigate.” It had big schools of golden snappers hiding in the engine room and swimming through it was fun like always.
