Day Trips

A variety of options that showcase the wonders of Baja California await you:

Day Trip to Espiritu Santo Island (Year-round)
Kayak in a paddler's paradise, snorkel with sea lions, or swim with tropical fish. Because of its warm waters and protected coves, Espiritu Santo Island provides the perfect place for beginning kayakers and snorkelers to hone their skills. Before you head back to La Paz, spend a few hours on one of the island's pristine, white sand beaches or explore its many coves and bays. A day trip to the island can be combined with any of our trips in the Sea of Cortez.

Day Diving from La Paz (July - November)
Enjoy some of the best dive sites in the area while diving from a skiff that allows you to quickly get to nearby sites. You can join us for a single day of diving in the Sea of Cortez, or return day after day while you spend your nights at one of La Paz’s lovely hotels. We're certain your fondest memories will be of the amazing biodiversity that you'll discover in the Sea of Cortez. This trip is ideal for pairing up with a day/overnight trip to Espiritu Santo Island, a whale shark excursion, or a live-aboard trip.

Whale Shark Excursion (May - June and October - November)
Are you looking for something different? Enjoy a brief but magical half-day trip searching for whale sharks in the Bay of La Paz. If you choose, we can use a spotter plane to help locate the gentle giants. This trip is great as an extension to your live-aboard scuba diving expedition, day diving, or day/overnight trip to Espiritu Santo Island.

Day Trip to San Ignacio Lagoon (January - April)
Experience friendly encounters with gray whales in our Cabañas Camp in San Ignacio Lagoon. Situated on a lovely expanse of beachfront land in a World Heritage Site, the property provides easy access to hundreds of gray whales who come to give birth, mate and enjoy their winter.

Day Trip to Espiritu Santo Island
We will meet at the warehouse around 8:00 a.m. to fit you with snorkel gear and head to the marina. A 2-hour skiff ride will deliver you to the crown jewel of the Sea of Cortez. Espiritu Santo Island has the most intact ecosystem in the region—several plants and animals that make this island their home are found nowhere else in the world! The flexibility of this trip allows you to hone your kayaking skills, snorkel with tropical fish, hike along established trails on the island, or just relax and enjoy some quiet time. After a tasty meal on one of the island's many pristine beaches, we will visit Los Islotes, a sea lion rookery just north of Isla Espiritu Santo. With over 400 sea lions living here year-round, snorkeling with the pups is a must for every visitor. We make our way back to La Paz at mid-afternoon. Lunch provided.

Day Diving from La Paz
We will meet at the Marina La Paz around 8:30 a.m. and transfer by skiff to the first dive site. We typically offer 2-3 dives per day; the actual number of dives and time spent at each location will be determined by the current, prevailing weather conditions, and the judgment of the captain and dive master. Lunch will be served on a nice, calm beach in the area. We will be back in La Paz around 5:30 p.m, giving you time to take a shower and rest in your hotel before dinner. Lunch provided.

Whale Shark Excursion
We will meet at the warehouse around 9:00 a.m. to fit you with snorkel gear and head to the marina. A short boat ride will deliver you to where the gentle giants feed. After a short briefing, get ready to stealthily enter the water to catch a glimpse of the world's biggest fish. Enjoy refreshment on the way back to La Paz around 1:00 p.m.

Day Trip to San Ignacio Lagoon
Your whale watching excursion begins around 10:30 a.m. with a steaming cup of coffee or fresh juice. Our naturalist guides will provide a short orientation and safety briefing. They will accompany you in the skiff to point out interesting behaviors and answer your questions during the excursion. We will spend 90 minutes in the whale observation area, where you will experience the thrills of whales surfacing just a few feet away.
