Your whale watching adventure begins as you meet our Baja Expeditions escort in the lobby of the San Diego’s Hotel Occidental. We'll travel by comfortable motor coach across the border to one of three air fields near San Diego. Transport time to Brown Field in Otay Mesa or Tijuana International is approximately 30-45 minutes. If we depart from Ensenada Airport, we'll drive approximately 90 minutes along a scenic highway to reach the airport.

 

We often use a 1955 Convair, built in San Diego and originally used as a military transport plane. This 24-passenger, two-engine plane has a lavatory on board. Though not luxurious, it is very sturdy and reliable, and many of our travelers enjoy the unique experience of flying in a true “classic.” We have a long and trusted relationship with the family which owns and pilots the aircraft.

 

Our airplane will already be waiting for us, and—after a quick baggage inspection—take us to the Lagoon’s landing strip, where we'll arrive approximately two hours later (depending on weather conditions and type of aircraft used). Note that the maximum allowable weight of baggage is to 30 lbs. per person.
